"Teacher" Gunman dead in Montego Bay Jamaica

This week-end the police ended the lives of five(5) alleged gunmen in Montego Bay, Jamaica. One of those dead turned out to be a Collin Palmer, leader of the Collin Palmer Gang. What caught my eye was that he was a Calabar Graduate, Mico Graduate and a former teacher at three of Montego Bay's prominent High schools in the 1990s. His nickname was "Teacher".

What went wrong? How does one with an interest in teaching students to be better persons and helping them fit in to society end up leading a group of outlaws and becoming a misfit. We get a little hint from one of Mr. Palmer's friends as reported in the story. This friend said he spoke with Mr. Palmer and encouraged him to change his ways but Mr Palmer's response seem to have been that he had no choice as he had no work and he had children to feed. The question is who is going to feed those children now? It is a pity he did not consider the possibility of this being his end.

It would be interested to get his full story and I hope some enterprising journalist will try and dig a little deeper and let us get a better picture of Mr. Palmer and his family and what went wrong.

Another interesting twist is that original reports pointed to 2 guns plus a toy gun while later reports say that four(4) guns have now been ascribed to being in their possessions. That is an entirely different story.

I am not defending this person but I have learnt that when people are desperate they rarely believe that they have much of a choice and so they do what they believe is best at that particular instant without thinking ahead.

Or maybe they do in fact think ahead, but when they weigh the pros and cons they tend to believe that despite the fact that the "con" is so bad, the decision they make will provide the better results for them since things couldn't possibly be worse than their present situation.

I will not even begin to try to explain or understand what was happening in that fellow's head but can I tell you that sometimes praying friends get us out of the pit we might fall into our dig ourselves into. Sometimes talking to a friend is not quite enough. Sometimes, they need a lot of talk (encouragement) coupled with a lot of prayer.
