Apple releases iOS 9.0.1 to fix Slide to Upgrade and other bugs
Apple has finally pushed out an iOS update, iOS 9.0.1, to address issues with the Setup Assistant app getting stuck on “Slide to Upgrade.” A new update, iOS 9.02, fixes that issue plus more.
If your iOS 9 device is stuck on Slide to Upgrade, after you update to iOS 9 or restore from a backup, here is what to do:
If you already updated to iOS 9 and stuck at Slide to Upgrade
Long form
If you had this issue before iOS 9.0.1 was available and you’ve already set up your device as new, use these steps to restore from your previous backup:
iOS 9.0.1 iOS 9.0.2 is available from the Software Update section of the Settings app. Apple also released a new beta of iOS 9.1 today.

If you already updated to iOS 9 and stuck at Slide to Upgrade
Short Form
- You’ll need to update to
iOS 9.0.1iOS 9.0.2 : - Connect your iOS device to a computer. Then make sure that iTunes is open. (n.b. Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes)
- While your device is connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
- When asked, choose Update.
- Once the update is done, finish the onscreen steps to set up your device.
If that fails time for the long form
Long form
- You’ll need to update to
iOS 9.0.1iOS 9.0.2 : - For best results you will need to do the following
- Make sure you PC/Max is updated. Install all those Windows and OSX updates
- Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes
- Restart the machine!
- Temporarily disable your Anti-Virus(e.g. McaFee, Trend Security Avast, AGV, Kapresky etc)
- Open iTunes and let it load up. Be patient
- Connect your iOS device to a computer. If you see any messages e.g. sync, backing up etc, in the iTunes window, let them finish before proceeding
- Then while your device is connected, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
- When asked, choose Update.
- Once the update is done, finish the onscreen steps to set up your device.
- Re-enable disable your Anti-Virus(e.g. McaFee, Trend Security Avast, AGV, Kapresky etc)
If you had this issue before iOS 9.0.1 was available and you’ve already set up your device as new, use these steps to restore from your previous backup:
- Update your device to
iOS 9.0.1iOS 9.0.2. - Go to Settings > General > Reset> Erase all Content and Settings. This will delete any content that's currently on your device.
- Then set up your device.
- When asked to restore from a backup, select either iCloud or iTunes and follow the steps to restore from your previous backup.
My Device is already updated to iOS 9.0
- Update your device as you would normally
The 9.0.1 update also fixes a problem with
- alarms and timers failing to play,
- and setting up a cutom APN could disable cellular connections.
- Issues with Safari and
- Photos could distort a video if it was paused during playback.

1. If you don't have a backup try the first option above(follow the instructions carefully)
Ensure you have the latest version of iTunes i.e. 12.3
