How to Set the APN on Blackberry 10 Devices with Escreen

There is a challenge at times with the APN being set incorrectly on BB10 Devices. Here is a solution for Q10/Z10/Z30 (should work on others). Please read the guide first, before proceeding. It requires entering the engineering screen (escreen://).

The Procedure

Preparation
  1. On Laptop/PC/Mac open this window, http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9610464/HelpScreen.html or BerryE-Screen Keygen
  2. ON the BB10 Device, open a browser window and set escreen:// as a bookmark in your browser
  3. Also make sure your date & time and timezone are correct
  4. Turn off Device password! (you will see why later)
Generating the Key
  1. Remove the battery when you phone is turned on
  2. Insert Battery in Phone and let the phone power up
  3. Do not press any keys! (This is why you need to turn off the Device password)
  4. Do not type anything!
  5. Open browser and tap on saved bookmark and open escreen:// (now alt key works)
  6. On your Laptop/PC/Mac enter the information from above, shown on the escreen://, A key will be generated. Please note:
    • Type pin in lowercase
    • App Version is the OS Version. Type the OS version exactly the same as what escreen shows
    • don’t forget to use '-' before your uptime if it's a negative number
Accessing the escreen
  1. Back on the BB10 Device,
    • On a Z10, Z30, swipe your keyboard up (two fingers swipe up) while looking at the help screen and enter that code.
    • On a Q10 just type it!
    • Note you will not see anything. You are typing blind! Please Note!
      • The generated code is not case sensitive
      • Press alt before every numbers in your code(this is what you do for numbers anyway)
      • Be quick! You have only 20 secs after escreen opening, do in the steps on the Laptop and entering the code on the BB10 device.
  2. Then you are in the engineering screens.
Changing the APN
  1. Go to General radio
  2. Scroll to set APN name and enter the APN you need.
  3. Click done/enter key and then back out and the network will reset with the new APN.
That is it!
