Touching Moment with K.D. Knight

Recently Khamal Knight, the son of Senator K.D. Knight died. I attended the funeral and I was glad I did.

It as a touching service as speaker after speaker spoke about this young man in a honest and frank way. They spoke of his weakness characterized stubbornness, hinting at his over indulgences and so on, in essence human tendencies and failings. They also spoke of his strengths, kindness, loving spirit, his believe that all men where equal and should be treated as such and his belief that he could do anything he put his head and hands to and finally his deep trust in God.

Senator K.D. Knight himself was excellent as he read the eulogy, punctuated with his own special brand of humor that if you were not careful you would have forgotten that you was at a funeral service. Indeed he too showed he was a strong man, and that big men can cry, as at one moment, overcome with grief, he shed a few tears before collecting himself and continuing. Indeed my own respect for the man grew.

There was also a touching scene, a scene the truly reflects one of the great virtues of Christianity, forgiveness and reconciliation. Unfortunately, no one from the media captured it via photograph as no media photographer was present and it was not mentioned by the writers in the reports that I have seen. It was a moment at the start of the service when Portia Simpson Miller went over, greeted and hugged K.D. Knight, extending her condolence, in effect telling him that she was here to support him. Truly that was special moment placed on the backdrop of a bruising PNP presidential campaign where K.D. Knight said some things of Portia that could have been deemed less than flattering.

Say what we want to we all have our failings and we all do things that looking back we can only say was wrong. It is at those points that we allow ourselves to realize our humanity and frailness and we recognize that only God is all powerful, the beauty of Christianity and what it can do for us and through us becomes ever so clear.

First, my condolence to K.D. Knight and his family. Frankly i didn't even knew he had a son much less one that recently passed away.

Death of a loved one can bring even the strongest man to tears. We are only human and often times fail to realize that we live only once.

Ensure you let the people around feel loved and appreciated. We are not here forever.
